DEWEY KETCHEM, P.I.

"Dewey Ketchem, P.I.", the new murder mystery theater play at Lolli's, opens April 18. Set in a big city atmosphere in 1947, the play is a spoof on famous private investigator stories and movies of that decade, including Mickey Spillane's "Mike Hammer" series.

But ... this is not your father's Mickey Spillane. Although Ketchem is always one step ahead of the law and two steps behind on his bar tab, the similarities end there. He conducts his business from his personal table in O'Grady's Pub, where his girlfriend, Anita Change works.

The pub is owned by Seamus O'Grady, who nearly died several years before. His family had contacted his cousin, Darcy O'Grady, at his pub in Dublin, Ireland, and asked him to come to America and take over the pub. After selling his pub in Ireland, Darcy came to America fully expecting to own his cousin's pub. Unfortanately, at least for Darcy, Seamus made a miraculous recovery, leaving Darcy as only a bartender.

Darcy met Ketchem in the club, and after watching his journey through several cases, he decided to chronicle Ketchem's cases, much like Dr. Watson wrote out the cases of Sherlock Holmes.

In this play, Darcy relates "The Case of the Majorican Monkey," a lost relic encrusted in jewels, gold and diamonds and blessed with good luck to the person who possesses it, according to legend.

Into the pub comes a knockout dame, Stella B. Starlight, looking to hire Ketchem to find her missing husband, a world-famous archaelogist. He was on the track of the Majorican Monkey and called her that he was returning with a "great gift." That was the last she heard from him.

After his body is found in the truck of a car near O'Grady's Pub by Hedda Hare, a wedding photo caption writer for the local newspaper, accusations began to fly. Who could have killed him? Where is the Majorican Monkey? How many more people must die before this case runs its course? Is Dewey Ketchem up to a case with international ties and intrigue?
